Date of Announcement
6 September 2004 - Datacom acquires GlobalCenter

Sydney, Aust. – 6th September 2004: Datacom Systems (Datacom) today announces it has acquired Melbourne-based internet data centre provider GlobalCenter. Under the terms of the contract, Datacom acquires GlobalCenter’s South Melbourne data centre and with it the existing team providing systems support and consulting services to the Victorian market. The acquisition will increase Datacom’s combined annual revenues in Australia to in excess of $80 million.

Datacom’s IT strengths and business scale are complementary to GlobalCenter’s specialist expertise which includes a fully-scalable equipment and applications hosting, maintenance and co-location facility.

The acquisition broadens Datacom’s IT services capabilities to include dual Australian data centres, substantially expanding its Business Continuity Management (BCM) and disaster recovery planning (DRP) value proposition. The acquisition also allows for further expansion of Datacom’s existing presence within the Victorian market.

Michael Browne, Chief Executive Officer, Datacom Systems, comments that the decision to acquire GlobalCenter was based on the strong synergies between the two organisations.

“We view GlobalCenter’s expertise and reputation as an excellent complement to Datacom’s own capabilities. It is an outstanding opportunity to broaden our skill base and further strengthen our competitive offering in Victoria.”

“We can now offer local customers an enhanced level of service by cross-utilising resources throughout all areas of the business. This will include, for instance, providing Datacom’s technical support services to GlobalCenters hosting and co-location clients, as well as offering Datacom clients improved access to hosting and co-location facilities within Australia.”

“Our immediate priority will be to ensure that the transition of GlobalCentrer’s customers to Datacom is completed seamlessly. It will then be possible to leverage the strengths of both businesses to improve our competitive advantage through cost efficiencies and expanding the range of service offerings available to the market. Additionally, we will be looking to the combined team to develop innovation across the combined business to enhance client service levels while maintaining our price competitiveness.”

GlobalCenter’s 10 support services staff will be fully integrated into Datacom’s Melbourne operations, boosting the IT services provider’s Melbourne staff count to 60 people and Australian staff count to 650.
